Printable Chainsaw Sharpening Checklist

Choose hand filing, bench grinding, or a field touch-up and track the work in order. The checklist supplies a sequence, while your chain and tool manuals supply the exact file, wheel, angle, depth-gauge, and service-limit specifications.

How To Use The Sharpening Checklist

Select the method that matches the work you are actually doing, then complete the checks from top to bottom. Do not transfer a file size, filing angle, grinder setting, or depth-gauge value from another chain; verify each specification for the identified chain and sharpening tool.

Hand Filing

Use this sequence when the exact chain, matching file, and filing guide are known and the chain remains serviceable.

Bench Grinding

Use this sequence with the grinder disconnected during inspection and with its wheel, vise, guard, and settings checked against the grinder and chain instructions.

Field Touch-Up

Use this only for a controlled touch-up in a stable work area. Swap the chain or stop if damage, identification, or setup remains uncertain.
